Block-Combined Honeycomb Structural Characteristics
1、Modular Assembly:Standard honeycomb cells (such as hexagonal or rectangular) are spliced or nested to form a block structure. The cells are secured by mechanical interlocking, bonding, or welding, enabling rapid assembly and disassembly.
2、Honeycomb structures exhibit orthotropic properties, meaning that mechanical properties vary significantly along the L (length), W (width), and T (thickness) directions:
L direction: Highest compressive strength, suitable for load-bearing structures.
W direction: Weak shear strength, requiring reinforcement with thicker walls or filler materials.
T direction: Low compression modulus perpendicular to the honeycomb plane, but overall rigidity can be improved through a sandwich structure (such as a honeycomb core + faceplate).
Sub-honeycomb Optimization:Some designs utilize a "nested sub-honeycomb" structure, with a thick-walled sub-honeycomb at the center and a thin-walled matrix honeycomb at the periphery. This density gradient achieves a balance between energy absorption and load-bearing capacity.
